AS WE GATHER
Our reward for being called to work in the kingdom does not change based on how long we’ve been in our Lord’s service. After all, we’re saved by grace, not by works. Where at first glance, this may all seem unfair. Yes, why shouldn’t we, who have borne the work in the heat of the day, come to expect that we will be rewarded all the more for our labors? There has to be some incentive to keep this enterprise going.
God’s ways are not ours. The incentive to serve does not come in how huge the reward will be. The incentive comes in the joy of knowing we have done the bidding of the One who calls us all by His grace. Another way of looking at it is for us to take pleasure in all of the fruit we’ve seen come to bear. Yes, no matter how short or long, our joy comes in what God accomplishes in us and in the world, when we continue to work together, with each other, always for Him, with His grace fully in view.
