AS WE GATHER
“If you want to walk on water, you’ve got to get out of the boat.” Such is the title to a popular book by John Ortberg on faith and trust in God’s promises. Where, the Lord bids us to “fear, love and trust” Him, though unbelief gets the better of us, keeping us either in the boat or in the depths. “O Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.”
“Take courage! It is I,” says our Lord, embodying the fulfillment of “fear, love and trust.” His gracious invitation grants what it asks. Yes, there is room on the waves, along with the promise of God that will see our little skiff safely to shore. Dare we believe such a promise? By God’s grace we do, in the certain confidence that Jesus’ presence is peace. Welcome to worship. Welcome to peace!
