Living in the Spirit

AS WE GATHER
This weekend marks the 250th anniversary of our declaration of freedom from Great Britain. Many Americans will celebrate by attending sporting events, with barbeques, and, when darkness falls, fireworks. All these things are wonderful in and of themselves; however, they cannot give us the true freedom each of us needs. That freedom is found in one place—Christ alone. In our Baptism, Jesus gives us the victory He earned for us on the cross—and thus, true freedom. As we embark on another year of God’s grace in this land, let us cherish, above all, the life to which Christ calls us in the Spirit. Happy Birthday, America! Happy Rebirth Day, people of God!
