AS WE GATHER
Today’s worship is bittersweet. Bitter, because some of us will be remembering someone we love who has died, and we are still grieving. Yet it is sweet, because that loved one was also loved by God, redeemed by Jesus, and now dwells in the place Jesus went ahead to prepare. Indeed, we may grieve, but not “as others do who have no hope” (1 Thessalonians 4:13). As John says, we can be, we are, the “children of God,” born of water and the Word, saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. This is our lasting hope. Therefore, rejoice, child of God, rejoice!
